EcoLux☆Lifestyle: Celebrity Stylist Karla Welch Cruises in With the Cadillac Escala Concept

EcoLux☆Lifestyle: Celebrity Stylist Karla Welch Cruises in With the Cadillac Escala Concept

Before the doors of the 2018 Vancouver International Auto Show opened, various private events unfolded throughout the two floors of the fully loaded Vancouver Conference Centre. Industry and media guests were invited to advance viewings of many vehicle debuts, which ranged from cute to crazy to concept.

Created for pet lovers, the Nissan Rogue Dogue is a pup inspired cargo area complete with mini dog-grooming kit, shower and blow-dryer and spill-proof water bowl and treat dispenser. The Koenigsegg Agera RS, the fastest production car on the planet with recorded speeds topping 457.94 km/h, rendered the crowd speechless then crazy giddy, as the cover was slowly removed by Natalie Rossiter of Lamborghini.

Legendary Cadillac crossed the border, not only with the Escala Concept car but with celebrity stylist Karla Welch repping the sleek luxe beauty. The concept was not as abstract as it seems. As Karla explained it, a luxury car is part of a larger picture, that of a luxury lifestyle. A way of living that includes fashion and design, travel and adventure, comfort and craftsmanship.

Originally from Vancouver, Karla is now based in Los Angeles and half of the Kemal + Karla power styling team. In 2017, The Hollywood Reporter named her the fashion industry’s most powerful celebrity stylist with an interesting roster of clients including Justin Bieber, Pink, Tracy Ross Ellis, America Ferrera, Busy Philipps, Karlie Kloss, and Lorde.

Looking modern and sleek, Karla was wearing a faux-leather ruffled sleeve black dress and cherry red pointy knee-boots with a matching red lip. The new Cadillac Escala Concept was also in shiny black and red. The Escala marries tech-centric innovation amidst fashion inspired, hand-crafted interiors featuring bespoke tailoring. This approach mirrors Karla’s own modern, minimalist approach and her process which draws on both contemporary and historical fashion.

The name ‘Escala’ is a reference to the Spanish word for ‘scale,’ emphasized by the rather large proportions of the concept. Cadillac is looking to expand its model range with a more expressive companion to the recently launched 2016 Cadillac CT6, currently regarded as the brand’s range-topping sedan.

The interior of the Escala is striking, and as Karla referenced, reminiscent of the Narciso Rodriguez dress that Kate Moss wore at the Cannes Film Festival. The grey marl of the dress looks almost identical to the men’s suiting fabric used on the cars interiors; doors, ceiling, hatch, and a refreshing change from the heaviness of leather.

Also noteworthy was the inclusion of a trio of delightfully minimalist pale grey handbags from Canadian designer Jason Wu, which were displayed in the hatch. Cadillac seems to be revealing a Canadian crush at this year’s Vancouver Auto Show, as Jason is also originally from Vancouver, now based in New York City.
