Huna Skincare: Innovation Through Science & 138-Acres of Botanicals

Huna Skin promotes an authentic, healthy lifestyle through good quality, natural ingredients that make their products less about skincare and more about skin nutrition. They take pride in being a science-based clean beauty company that combines the principles of herbal medicine and plant-based nutrition with sustainability and luxury. 

Each product is uniquely formulated using innovative methods and combinations founded on botanical science. Instead of importing or sourcing, they grow over thirty plant species that are organic and minimally processed for use as their botanical ingredients. This ensures a high standard for quality, freshness, and performance that employs and favours Canadians.

Strong Relationships

Huna Skin is based in Winnipeg and partners with the University of Manitoba’s Richardson Centre for Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals. There they can create new formulas in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment and in the future, they hope to collaborate further on launching new botanical products that treat specific skin problems and conditions. Huna is not only committed to personal health but to be active researchers and innovators in the Canadian and global green beauty industry. 

Huna at the Beginning 

Founder Heather Urquhart is a botanist, herbalist, and natural cosmetic formulator who has worked in the beauty industry for many years. In 2013, she noticed that her skin was dull, lacking vitality and beginning to show signs of aging. As someone passionate about nutrition and leading a healthy lifestyle, she looked for so-called ‘clean’ skincare brands. Though there seemed to be many options, she found that good quality, organic ingredients were simply additives and not actually at the core of these brands.

With her search for safe and effective products unsuccessful – so she took it upon herself to start her line of skincare that aimed to nourish and care for the skin deeply. In 2015, Heather launched her business using the Huna homestead in southern Manitoba as her supplier of botanicals. The 138-acre family acreage grows over thirty species of 100% organic botanical ingredients that feature in Huna products. Talk about sustainability! 

Revitalize Age-Grace Face Serum

Key Ingredients: Rosehip & Sea Buckthorn

This multi-award-winning face serum has the essential vitamins and minerals skin needs to be nourished back to health. In addition to benefiting the skin with phytonutrients, this serum provides antioxidant protection against pollution and environmental stressors. Apply to clean skin as desired, either morning or night, starting with 3-5 drops. 

Skin Nutrition Balm – Vegan

Key Ingredients: Candelilla wax, organic mango butter, chia seed oil, avocado, broccoli, and pomegranate oil, vitamins A, C & E

This nutrition balm, which was included in the Fall 2021 Alltrue Causebox, is the ideal solution for dry, dehydrated, damaged, sensitive and inflammation-prone skin. It provides intense nourishment and replenishment that can be used as all-season barrier protection. It is lightweight, quickly absorbing into the skin, and non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog your pores. 

Apply a pea-sized amount to your fingers and warm to melt. Apply all over the face as a night treatment or on dry and irritated areas on both face and body. 

Nourish Calendula Healing Oil

Key Ingredients: Calendula, camelia oil, vitamin E

This organic double-infused Calendula healing oil is the most potent calendula flower oil ever developed. It was made specifically to promote quick and healthy healing of most skin wounds and concerns. Revitalize Cleansing Creme + Makeup Remover

Key Ingredients: Unrefined Ucuuba, jojoba, mango butter

Unwind from your day with this award-winning gentle and moisturizing creamy daily cleanser. As an enzymatic cleanser, it moisturizes and balances the skin while stripping away impurities by exfoliating and brightening the skin. The 100% plant-based fruit acids in this cleanser are derived from natural papaya and pineapple, which help to remove makeup and heavy skin products. Ultra-healing and anti-bacterial qualities are found in the Ucuuba butter, which helps heal and revitalize the skin barrier. The AHA exfoliating blend works when you do not have to. Apply it overnight while you sleep and let your skin naturally repair – the result will be clear and refreshed skin in the morning. Try if you struggle with acne-prone, congested, mature, or sun-damaged skin.

Apply a small amount of toner to a cotton pad and gently wipe over cleansed face, neck and chest. Recommended for use at nighttime.

Firming Eye Cream

Key Ingredients: Sea kelp, ceramides, cocoa & hyaluronic acid

If you were looking for a vegan, cruelty-free, clean eye cream for your nightly routine, you have found it! This firming cream uses natural ingredients to deliver scientifically-tested results. It addresses all key signs of aging, specifically around the eye area. This product provides a solution: dehydration, dark under-eye circles, puffiness, decreased elasticity, or fine lines. It is lightweight, soothing, and non-greasy, absorbing quickly into the skin.

Apply a pea-sized amount to your finger, and gently dot along the lower outer 3/4 of your eye area. Use a light patting motion, tapping the product into the eye area, following the ocular bone as a guide. Safe for use both day and night.
